About the Burlington County Republican Committee

The Burlington County Republican Committee is arguably the most successful and effective Republican organization in the State and is always looking for new members to continue our winning tradition.

Are you up to the challenge?

Despite registered Democrats outnumbering registered Republicans by nearly 30,000 voters, Republicans hold the vast majority of state legislative, county and local elected offices in Burlington County because the party and its candidates adhere to philosophy of lower taxes, less spending and smaller government that enjoys wide appeal.

In fact, Burlington County government spends fewer tax dollars per person than any other county in the state, and is the only county to cut property taxes three years in a row.  This is balanced by the state’s most robust farmland and open space preservation program and one of the lowest county college tuitions in the state.

In addition to its fiscally conservative foundation, the Burlington County Republican Committee has a proud history of diversity and inclusiveness that is a model for other GOP organizations around the State.

Currently, Burlington County represented by two female State Senators and one of the first female Sheriff’s in New Jersey’s history, and has enjoyed the recognition of being home to some of the highest-ranking African-American and Hispanic Republicans in the State over the last two decades.

WHAT IS THE COUNTY COMMITTEE?

The County Committee is the grassroots arm of the local Republican Party.  It is comprised of Republicans elected to represent all Republicans residing in their voting precinct.  Precincts are sub-sections of the municipalities and each is represented by a male and female County Committee person of each party.  In Burlington County, there are 365 precincts within our 40 municipalities.

While policy is not made through the County Committee, it does serve an important purpose to the party that is spelled out in New Jersey statutes, Title XIX section 5-3.  Among some more administrative duties, the County Committee must elect the chairman, vice-chairman and other officials, adopt a constitution and bylaws, fill vacancies on Republican Municipal voting tickets and County Committee members have the opportunity to serve as poll watchers on Election Day.  The County Committee is, quite simply, the life blood of the Republican Party in the county and its municipalities.

WHAT DOES A COUNTY COMMITTEEPERSON DO?

County Committee membership is an elected political party position.  Those who serve are elected in even-numbered years during the June primary.  The membership makes up the political organization for both the specific municipality the member is representing and the county at large.  Each member has an equal vote in the election of the chairman, the filling of vacancies and every other task designated for the County Committee.

In addition to the responsibilities listed in the statute, there are a number of unmentioned duties that accompany County Committee membership.  Members can often be found helping with our local campaigns, creating a presence at candidate events and rubbing elbows with elected officials and local leaders.
